Census Record Transcripts

Each census record transcript contain data extracted from the actual census record referenced at the top of the page.

Actual census records differ in format, but the transcripts follow a common format   Some of the fields listed in the transcript record do not appear in every census and are therefore sometimes left blank.

Most census records contain flags to capture various types of information.  Much of that information is captured in the notes section of the transcript.

Not every piece of information has been transcribed from the original census records.  The goal was to gather the most important information, and in many cases there very little on the original record that was not transcribed.

Bear in mind that some of the census records are hard to read; in any case there is the inevitable human error.  A "?" appears next to data that was a difficult to read; however, there is no guarantee that everything written without a question mark was easily or correctly interpreted.
